Learn about the impact evaluation results of our Healthy Homes program

At Cementos Argos, we believe that improving a home means much more than transforming a physical space—it’s about contributing to families’ well-being, health, and opportunities. That’s why we want to share the results of the impact evaluation of our Healthy Homes program, conducted by Universidad EAFIT, endorsed by the American Economic Association, and supported by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
The results confirm positive impacts on physical and mental health, employability, social relationships, and the quality of life of beneficiary families.
Main findings from the impact evaluation:
- Children under age 6 in beneficiary households reported 20% fewer fever episodes compared to non-intervened households.
- Participating families reported a 7.5% improvement in their mental health.
- Self-reported mood after the intervention increased by 16.4%.
- At least 80% of heads of household completed the construction and life-skills course.
- 41% of intervened households feel more comfortable inviting people to their homes.
- Perceptions of private companies improved by 13% among beneficiary households.
Since we began this journey, we have completed more than 10,000 home improvements in Colombia, reaching more than 25,000 people, with an investment exceeding COP 35 billion.
The Healthy Homes program goes beyond replacing dirt floors with concrete; it promotes community empowerment, the inclusion of women, life-skills development, and local job creation, helping to reduce the qualitative housing deficit in the country and to foster fairer, more inclusive urban development.
Today, this model operates in Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Honduras, and Panama, demonstrating that together we can transform realities in a tangible and sustainable way.
