For Argos, the Grupo Argos cement company, exports have been a key element in the process towards recuperation after the effects generated by COVID-19 and, in the first five months of the year, the cement company’s exports to the United States grew by 419 %, going from 26,000 tons in 2020 to 135,000 tons in 2021.
“At Cementos Argos we are committed to the growth not only of the cement industry, but also of Colombia and all the countries where we have a presence, that is why we have generated different strategies that have allowed us to diversify and increase cement exports, which translates into dividends that enter the country and contribute to economic and social development “, added Juan Esteban Calle, president of Cementos Argos.
In the particular case of the United States, there has been a rebound in the demand for cement and it’s estimated that this industry will grow by 2,2 % in 2021. It should be noted that the company has a privileged location in its Cartagena Plant, which facilitates the entry of cement volumes at a more favorable cost from the Caribbean Sea.
Cementos Argos seeks to close the year with a total of 400,000 tons of product exported to the United States. In addition, thanks to the project that consists of expanding the productive and port’s capacity of its Cartagena Plant, which will come into operation in the second half of 2021 with an approximate investment of USD 40 million and 194 jobs created, the cement company will be able to support the growing demand for this market and other destinations to which it exports, within the framework of the recovery plans of the economies that include the construction sector as a means for development.
